Chihiro Murakami

Creative Director, Art Director

Worked as a graphic designer on commercial and public communication projects for two leading Japanese design companies, GK graphics Inc. and Nippon Design Center Inc, after graduating from Musashino Art University, Tokyo.

Studied in the UK and was awarded a diploma from Goldsmiths College, University of London and MA from Central Saint Martin's College of Art and Design, University of the Arts, London. A part time lecturer for the Design Informatics Course at Musashino Art University since 2007.

Through her experiences in high-profile design projects with GK graphics and Nippon Design Center, Chihiro has a wide range of skills in print graphics and visual communication. During her three years in London, she immersed herself in the lively, creative energy in the UK, and worked with many influential London-based graphic teams, such as GTF and Research Studio, while getting her masters degree at Central Saint Martins. Joining the Japan EXPO project in the UK and collaborating with Land Design Studio to produce the pavilion logo and space graphics for the UK Pavilion (awarded "Best in Book" at the Creative Review Annual 2006) kickstarted her quest for innovative creativity through global visual communication.

Chihiro started Birds Design in Tokyo in 2006. She leverages a broad network of creative professionals to work on both individual and collaborative projects for national and international clients. In addition, she does design consulting, teaching, lecturing, and writing about communication design at universities, public and private institutions, and a number of online and printed publications.
